Jayne & Tony, checking off the bucket list!

Dunedin

Jayne, 04/10/201923/07/2024

We arrived at port about 8am, the area was filled with timber waiting to be shipped to China. New Zealand is the largest exporter of timber in the world.

After breakfast we boarded a bus into Dunedin city centre for the day. The area is filled with beautiful old buildings.

The gardens were all in flower around the city.

Outside the historic railway station were garden mazes and the spring blossoms were out.

The railway station was very impressive. We thought about catching a train to a nearby town but we were too late – fortunate for us as that train broke down and the passengers were stranded for a few hours.

After a look around town we caught the hop on hop off bus for the day and visited the University area where there are over 30,000 students. Then we  headed out to the botanic gardens for lunch. The gardens were really beautiful, worth a visit for a few hours of relaxation.

We decided to walk back into town to visit the museum. So far all the museums we have visited have been free and the quality of the displays has been amazing – far better than expected and really interesting collections. Heres just a few quick pics.

After a few hours at the museum we walked back to the city centre and caught the bus back to the ship – a really good day – great weather and lots of interesting history from our bus drivers.
