Out second visit to Corfu was great – we spent the day out exploring the city and the visiting the two main forts.
This is the ‘old fort’…
We made our way through the streets towards to the fort
… till we reached the steps…
beautiful views over the city as we got higher…
This tunnel is through fort wall….
this pic gives you an idea how thick the fort walls are
The view from the top!
This symbol is of the Venetians and its seen on a lot of buildings in the Mediterranean – if the book is open then they came in peace, if the book is closed they came declaring war on that place.
Back down from the fort we walked for a while just out of the tourist area which was nice – no one hassling us to buy ‘stuff’.
Then we made our way to main square and took a horse and carriage ride around the old part of the city and along the harbour.
We decided to also visit the ‘new fort’.
… the climb up was well and truly worth it!
Thats the Royal Princess out in the harbour.
A lovely walk back to the ship for another fantastic evening of views as we sailed out…
