When you first see Monserrat it just draws your eye to it, its different to the surrounding countryside and just dominates the landscape. We were now on our way to visit the a Benedictine monastery at the top of that mountain
About half way up the mountain now and if you zoom in on the top, middle of the picture you can just make out the buildings…
Here is a close up taken from the same spot, still a fair way to go…
The whole trip up the mountain was just the most beautiful views… we could see to the Pyrenees mountains which form the border with France
Getting close to the top now…
When we arrive we spent time taking in the views – just breathtaking!
You can see the road here and we could also see walking trails. People still walk up the mountain either as a pilgrimage or a hiking walk. It takes about six seven hours for a fit person to get to the monastery by walking.
After a look around we took a very steep cable car to the top….
Looking down at the monastery from the top….
After a while enjoying the top of Montserrat we made our way back down and headed off to the church..
