There are bikes everywhere here, just ordinary people, not men in lycra! The locals can use the bike stations around the city, they pay a fee and its a hop on hop off system so you just rid to where you need to go and then return the bike. The borrow another one when you need it.
Just a couple more pics of the beautiful old gothic section of the city and the cathedral…
The church has about 12 of these altars around the sides of the main section where you can pray and light (electric) candles – just gold everywhere!
The Lady of Serrat was there and certainly had more candles than the others and bunches of flowers left at the steps….
A few more of the view of Barcelona from the roof of the cathedral
These coffins mounted on the walls inside the main church..
Beautiful bridge between the buildings….
Some of the houses had altars built on the outside near the entrance..
Once we left the Gothic quarter we walked back up Las Ramblos – the main 1.2km street in Barcelona. The road is divided by a centre area for walking, bikes stalls, lots of flower stalls….
lots of people, but it never felt crowded and despite all the pickpocket warnings we felt quite safe wandering about Barcelona. These guys on the right had portable stalls in those white canvas bags – they just walked along, threw down the bag and opened it up and it was already laid out with bags, t-shirts, souvenirs etc – stall set up in less than a minute!
lots of great food stalls… the food here looks great…
…. and lots of beautiful doors and architecture…
