Today our itinerary was changed. Early in the day the captain made an announcement that he had something special planned & that he was just waiting for approval, but it would be a ‘first’ for everyone on the ship if we did it. Well that was a great way to get everyones interest and make up for the loss of a port day. Later in the morning he announced that we had been given permission to sail into an extinct volcano & we would the first Princess ship to do it. So there was quite an air of excitement on board.
The weather was just perfect, so still & the views as we approached were amazing. I have never seen so many people out on deck, I think every passenger & crew member was up top taking in the view as we approached the entrance.
We were sailing very, very slowly. Our ship sailed in through the small entrance. It was very quiet and so peaceful and some canoes came out to greet us. Once inside the ship did a very, very slow 360 degree. There was a small monastery inside built on the side of a hill.
Heres the view of the entrance now that the ship has turned around, ready to leave – its was quite narrow.
