We had an incredible day visiting Naples and Pompeii – just amazing and more pics and history than I can write up. We’ll start with Naples where we visited the medieval Castle Nuovo
Views of Naples..
Castle entrance
The moat and bridge to enter the castle
The courtyard of the castle
The room where the Massacre of the Barons took place – (see the history of the Barons conspiracy here)
Then we walked into the city..
the original town square was much larger than others we’ve visited
… more sad lions…
… then we walked through the streets to the house of one of the nobles, where the Bourbon tunnels entrance is.. ( again, amazing history, but running out of time!)
just before entering the tunnels you can see a few of the German military equipment that was found inside
Then 150 steps straight down – 40 metres underground…
the tunnels were originally built as a route for escape route to the Palace ( see the link above) but they have also been used in WWII as air raid shelters and also we went into the old water cistern storage of the city.. lots of great 360 photos which I can’t post here unfortunately..
The bottom of the well…
lots more tunnels underground than what we saw…
parts of old broken statues found in the tunnels…
it was absolutely amazing! – after a few hours underground we (Tony) had pizza at a local restaurant overlooking the beach..
… then after a nice lunch we headed off to see Pompeii.
