These brown doors are where the gladiators were kept, tiny dark cells with 4-5 to a cell. Eighteen bodies were found here.

In a merchants house was this base for a glass topped table where the best silver would have been displayed – it had previously been owned by one of the men who murdered Julius Caesar – all their good were sold off and you’ll see his name inscribed on the table a few pics below.

Pompeii was fantastic! We had a few hours wandering amongst the ruins then back to the ship to enjoy the amazing views…
