.Espiritu Santo is the largest of the islands of 83 islands that make up Vanuatu. It was this island that became the military bases in WWII. So there is a lot of WWII history and memorabilia here.
We arrived at the port and it was pretty quiet.
We decided to just walk into town and have look around on our own. Lots of people paid drivers for tours which consisted of them jumping in the back of utes and trucks to be shown around the island. Walking into town it was very quiet, not many people around apart from a few tourists and some locals. It just didn’t feel very safe to be honest so we didn’t stay too long.
We walked back to the ship and visited the market stalls that the locals had set up just outside the port. I love lizards and just had to hold these beautiful banded iguanas. They are actually native to Fiji but are popular on the island.
After lunch we did a great tour. These women create music by slapping the water and moving around in it.
Then we had some singing and dancing from the men.
time for a photo… love the coconut hats
We watched the men make kava and we both decided not to try it. It just looked like dirty water but a lot of people tried it.
