Jayne & Tony, checking off the bucket list!

Wala Vanuatu

Jayne, 23/06/2013
Wala is a small island with a population of 300 people, it used to known as New Hebrides in the past. There is no electricity, cars or telephones here!  There are a few villages on the island and as you get off the boat and walk along there are people approaching you offering to give you a tour around for $5 each. There were stalls with food and handicrafts and lots of kids singing and showing off their pets. These kids were happy to have a photo and the girl with the chicken had a piece of string tied around its leg.

We waited till later after we got well past the main group and then walked along the beach for a bit Then we went for a look around with a man from a neighbouring island who had family living on Wala.

We looked through this little home, one hut was the kitchen and another the  sleeping area with little garden patches around it. Eating area is outdoors.

This is where the village pigs are kept.

A well for fresh water.

I must say it makes you think about how lucky we are and about how and who to give money to and what is actually needed or even helpful… food for thought..

After our look around the village we spent most of the morning on the beach just enjoying the views and the weather.
